(Above left) "Jack-in-the-Box" Teller on Laura Street in Jacksonville. Before the Barnett National Bank of Jacksonville installed a drive-in facility, this air conditioned, bullet-proof booth was constructed under the sidewalk, mounted on a hydraulic elevator. At 9:30 a.m., with a teller already stationed inside, it was raised to the sidewalk, and stayed there until 1:30 p.m. This curbside teller first operated in 1955, and remained in operation until 1961. Note that Laura Street is a one-way street, and the "Jack-in-the-Box" was set on the passenger side.
